Sounds of the Heart
On February twenty-fourth, in Mexico we celebrate our Flag Day, and the national holiday on which we honor the symbol of the flag, its history and the character of those who worked to protect its honor. To the people who contributed to design it. However, this day represents the spirit of nationalism, and I have the commitment to honor and follow the traditions of our country. For me, it is more than the national holiday day it is the day when I have the opportunity to meet more students from around the country on our traditional competitions and celebration groups. However, my moving to the United States means I can’t experience this celebration anymore. I have lost the spirit of this holiday, and now February twenty-fourth is just another day without importance.
One of the very colorful aspects of this day is the music. The other day, while I was browsing the internet I found an article related to the Flag Day. It showed how the students were celebrating, and it brought me the image of the beautiful traditional dresses that we use, and the sound of the National Orchestra of music composed by mostly students. They can play the whole day even walking while playing the beautiful and constant sound of the drums, maracas, tuba, trombone, and the entire music instrument that the orchestra carries.
My adventurous mind brought me to a country, where I completely lost the spirit of a good day of celebration. One of my favorite Mexico holiday- Flag Day, now is just another ordinary day, without music melodies, and without sharing the national anthem with others students from other parts of the country. The loss of this special day is hard, but I have come to understand it.
Hello Jaime, this is one of my favorite national holidays. It is sad that we can't celebrate it here in the US.
ReplyDeleteHello Jaime, this is so sad, we lost our traditions in this country, but we can learn about another!! cheer up!!

ReplyDeleteI like your title!!Anyway, we all would lost our tradition when we moved to a new place. We should remember the old, and learn the new.
ReplyDeletewow, your celebration somehow have similarities to our independence day celebration, in the sense that we also have competitions and we meet other students too.
ReplyDeleteI think part of life is losing and gaining new tradition. Sadly, you lost one of your favorites, but it doesn't mean that in the future you might gain a new one =)
